Most of this work is waiting. What a leader can teach you is not where the tiger will be. It is how to be ready when the light finally falls the way you need it, and how to keep working when it does not.

The country changes. The light still decides.

03How it works

From the first email to your edit.

Five stages. No online checkout at any point.

01

You write, we answer

A real reply from the person who will be in the vehicle with you. We will ask what you shoot, what you own, and what you have not managed to photograph yet.

02

We confirm the fit

Six seats means the mix matters. If a departure is wrong for your level or your target species, we will say so and point you at the right one, including a competitor's.

03

Before you go

Gear list, a preparation note for the specific park, permit paperwork and insurance confirmation. Sent well ahead, not the week before.

04

In the field

Two drives a day, long sits, and an evening review of the cards. The itinerary bends around the animals and the light rather than the clock.

05

After you are home

Send your edit within the month and you get a written response to it. Most people find this is where the week finally pays off.

04A day in the field

Fourteen hours, one park.

A February day at Bandhavgarh. The shape holds; the hours move with the season.

05:10

Coffee, no conversation

Bodies checked, cards in, lenses out of the bags and onto the beanbags before you leave the room. The gate opens at first light and the queue matters.

06:15

Through the gate

The first forty minutes are the coldest and the best. Alarm calls carry further in still air, and the light is doing something you cannot get back at any other hour.

08:00

The decision

Either you are on an animal or you are not. If you are, you stay: two hours in one position is normal. If you are not, we move to where the tracks were fresh yesterday.

10:30

Out, and breakfast

Back before the heat. Cards come off, batteries go on, and the morning gets talked through while it is still fresh enough to argue about.

12:00

Review, or sleep

Not optional on review days. On the others, take the four hours — the evening drive is the one that usually delivers, and tired photographers miss things.

15:30

Back in

Hard overhead light for the first hour, which is a good hour to work on habitat frames and behaviour rather than portraits.

17:40

The twenty minutes

Everything the day was arranged around. Shutter speeds you were taught to refuse, and the frames most people end up printing.

19:30

Cards on the table

Selects, near-misses, and the specific reason a frame did not work. Then what to change before 05:10.

05What you take home

Not a course. A week of being corrected.

There is no syllabus and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What there is: a working photographer in the seat next to you, six people instead of sixteen, and an honest account every evening of why a frame did not hold.

  • 01Metering a backlit animal against dust or water without losing the subject
  • 02Working below your comfortable shutter speed, and knowing the keeper rate to expect
  • 03Reading behaviour early enough to be pointed the right way
  • 04Choosing background before subject, which is the habit that changes most portfolios
  • 05Editing down to the four frames that are actually worth showing

I came back with four frames I would print. On previous trips I came back with four hundred I would not.

M. Kowalski · Poland

The vehicle stopped where the light was, not where the animal was. Nobody had done that with me before.

D. Reyes · United States

Six of us, one leader, and an evening review that was genuinely critical. That is what I paid for.

A. Lindqvist · Sweden

Write to us. A person answers.

There is no booking engine on this site and there will not be one. Every expedition is confirmed by conversation, because at six guests the fit matters more than the transaction.
